Domestic violence can happen to anyone of any race, age, sexual orientation, religion or gender.   Safe House for Women can help older adults find refuge from an abusive relationship.

Domestic violence can include not only physical violence, but emotional, mental, verbal, and financial abuse.

Domestic violence legally differs from elder abuse in that it is committed against a physically and mentally healthy adult and occurs at the hands of a spouse or companion.

Domestic violence is wrong regardless of your age. No one deserves to be hurt.

●Is your spouse or companion verbally, mentally, emotionally, physically, or sexually abusing you?

●Are you being denied private space or time?

●Do you feel isolated?  From family?  From friends?

●Are your assistive devices (canes) withheld from you?

●Is your spouse withholding your scheduled medications?

●Are you being controlled and not allowed to make decisions?

●Are you being deprived of good personal hygiene or proper cleanliness when you need assistance?
