Crime Victims’ Compensation Program

The Crime Victims’ Compensation Program provides financial assistance to victims who have suffered physical harm as a result of violent crime.

The Crime Victims Program is designed to assist victims of violent crimes through a period of financial hardship as a payor of last resort. If a victim has exhausted other sources of compensation, such as health insurance, and has no other source of reimbursement, the Program can help pay for medical costs, wage loss, psychological counseling, funeral expenses and support for dependent survivors to a maximum limit of $25,000.

To be eligible, a person must have sustained personal bodily injury as a victim of violence crime, or as a result of trying to prevent a violent crime.  In order for the victim to receive compensation:

● The injury must have occurred in Missouri.

● The incident must have been reported to the proper law enforcement agency within 48 hours.

● The victim must cooperate with law enforcement officials in their investigation and prosecution.

● A claim must be filed within two years of the incident.

● A claim may be filed for out-of-pocket expenses only.
