We encourage volunteering at the Safe House for Women! Due to the confidential nature of our work, we are not always able to accommodate all volunteer inquiries; however, we do our best to match volunteer talents and abilities with our program needs and the needs of our residents.
THRIFT STORE
Our greatest volunteer need is in our Thrift Store. The success of our Thrift Store is directly dependent on volunteer support! Both long-term and short-term volunteers can be utilized in accepting donations, sorting items and stocking the sales area. Individuals interested in volunteering a few hours each week are very welcome, as are groups interested in a one-day or occasional service project.
Outreach Office – Cleaning
The Safe House works with the local Board of Probation & Parole and Private Correctional Services to schedule individuals in need of community service hours to provide housekeeping for our Outreach Office. If you are in need of a community service project due to a DWI or similar charge, you may contact the Safe House to discuss openings.
Shelter – Maintenance & Lawn Care
We have occasional opportunities for groups to provide maintenance and/or lawn care services at our shelter location. Because of the confidential location of our shelter, these are scheduled on a case-by-case basis. Groups must be affiliated with a service organization, church, school, etc.
Shelter – Client Mentoring
Individuals who are interested in mentoring Safe House clients must first complete a 48-hour volunteer training program. These programs are offered in the fall and spring. Contact the Outreach Office for more information.
